Kaufhold & Reveillaud Joins Relay for Life

On April 1, 2017, Kaufhold & Réveillaud, Avocats, in partnership with nonprofit Cercle Suisse, was one of 375 teams to lace up their sneakers for the twelfth edition of Relay for Life in Luxembourg.

Present in over 25 countries, the team fundraiser collects money for the fight against cancer while honoring survivors and those who have lost their lives to the disease.

For the second year in a row, five representatives from the law firm joined a team of forty to take part in the 24-hour event: Michèle Medernach, Sabrina Salvador, Catherine Delsaux Schoy, Christine Louis Haberer and Brigitte Czoske.

According to the guidelines, one team member should be on the track at all times, their non-stop participation symbolizing that cancer never sleeps. The Coque indoor track in Kirchberg hosted, with teams circling the stadium from 8pm on Saturday to 8pm on Sunday.

Aside from the running and walking element, snack and cancer information booths were set up outside the main hall. The photo station, food lab, café, children’s corner, fitness classes and bikes provided amusement throughout the night and day. Music, costumes and cheering kept everyone motivated during their laps.

“What’s better than fundraising in a nice atmosphere doing a sport I like? It really reminds us how lucky we are to have our health and enjoy sports, because those fighting cancer cannot,” said Brigitte Czoske, Lawyer, Kaufhold & Réveillaud, Avocats.

Funds raised through donations support prevention, patient care and cancer research. By simply holding an event dedicated to the fight against cancer, organizers hope to raise awareness and eliminate the taboos that keep cancer conversations hushed.

Luxembourg did not disappoint, with people of all ages, nationalities, and fitness and health levels turning up for an inspirational day of solidarity.

The original idea was born in 1985 when Dr. Gordon Klatt decided to walk and run around a track for 24 hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society. He surpassed 83 miles, raised nearly €25,000 and turned up the next year with 19 teams in tow — paving the way for what would become a global initiative that has raised over €4.5 billion to date.
