On May 6 and 7, Luxembourg\u2019s experts in data protection converged at the national Chamber of Commerce to reflect on the state of \u201cGDPR, one year on\u201d at the Luxembourg Data Protection Days.<\/span><\/p>\n

For those interested in deepening their knowledge and meeting other experts, the packed itinerary of speakers, panel discussions and networking opportunities facilitated exactly that. <\/span><\/p>\n

The specialized event let attendees dig beyond the surface to tackle controversial topics and niche issues. Networking discussions highlighted questions raised by current events, for example a judge\u2019s recent decision to side with a laid-off employee exercising his GDPR rights.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event\u2019s 35 speakers included representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, the European Commission, the CNPD and the private sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I particularly appreciated was having our regulator, the CNPD, present. They are very proactive and they came to the event really searching out contact with professionals,\u201d explained Jeff Braun, Lawyer, Kaufhold & Reveillaud, Avocats. \u201cWe were able to speak with them directly.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the regulators are the ones performing audits and ultimately determining compliance, understanding their requirements in terms of accountability and GDPR best practices is crucial.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey have the right to audit randomly, so it\u2019s important to understand what they expect,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As the only mid-sized law firm with a booth, Kaufhold & Reveillaud, Avocats enjoyed connecting with data protection officers and diverse experts over the course of the two days.<\/span><\/p>\n
